Camping Sakar Hills

Camping Sakar Hills was created, developed and is still managed by the Jeffes family: Martin, Shirley and their son Matt. It is in the far south-eastern corner of Bulgaria very near the borders with both Greece and Turkey.

A most excellent guide to this whole area from Thracian times to the present day is Bulgarian writer Kapka Kassabova's book, simply called 'Border: A Journey to the Edge of Europe'. Barry's review of her book for the Guardian is available here and there is a Kindle edition of the book available from Amazon for £8.73. The image taken from the book is of a Pomak bride and her escort during her three-day wedding ceremony in the village of Draginovo, Bulgaria.

For a detailed account (with a map and a link to photographs) of our 8-day, 7-hotel, 3-country bicycle ride in the heat of summer 2019. click: A Three-Country Cycle Ride.
